Bill Scott and Don Hobbs from Front Range Business, Inc. present a two-day online workshop titled “Buying Or Selling A Business” for the Boulder Small Business Development Center (SBDC) .

More than almost any other type of transaction, there’s a lot at stake when you buy or sell a business. This interactive two-day workshop is geared to both buyers and sellers and covers a wide range of concepts which need to be understood in this complex and detailed transaction, no matter which side of the table you’re sitting on!

Day 1 – The Nine Stages of Buying or Selling A Business

Every business transaction goes through nine key stages. While never perfectly sequential, these stages will tend to progress in a generally linear fashion. Understanding and preparing for what lies ahead can make the difference between an efficient and successful sale, or one that fails to achieve a positive outcome.

Most sellers have never sold a business previously, and often haven’t purchased one either, since many businesses are started from scratch. Equally, buyers may be acquiring a business for the first time. Both will benefit from knowing what lies ahead during the sales process and preparing for it. This program will lay out the timelines, processes, and obligations that will be encountered during a business transaction.

Day 2 – Understanding Valuation and Financial Aspects of Buying or Selling A Business

Buyers and sellers will both want to understand why a business is valued and priced at a certain level. This program will detail that valuation process but will go beyond price to discuss the need for working capital, deal structure components and options, and the mechanics of financing the purchase.

Transactions are completed when both buyer and seller come to the table with a shared vision. By studying these essential elements of a business sale, all parties to the transaction will be better prepared to tackle the complex process of buying or selling a business.
